OMAN, Sir Charles William Chadwick (1860-1946)
CL All Souls College, Oxford (Codrington) 1889-1945
A brilliant historian and student of both medieval and modern periods, he was Chichele Professor of Modern History at Oxford from 1905. His outstanding contributions to both periods include History of the art of war in the Middle Ages (1898, 2nd edition 1924) and History of the Peninsular War (7 vols, 1902-1930). He was also MP for Oxford U 1919-1935.
